Verdugo Park Aquatic Facility Renovation Project

The construction of this aquatic facility included a new Olympic size pool, new activity pool with (2) 14'-0" slides, spray play features and 34,210 sq. ft. of concrete deck around the pool. This project required the demolition of the existing Olympic sized pool and bathhouse/locker room building which was built in 1948 and was located directly underneath an existing 1966 gymnasium building. In its place a 6,343 sq. ft. bathhouse/locker room building was built that consists of: training rooms, lifeguard offices, meeting rooms, separate shower and locker areas for boys and girls. A new mechanical building was built covering 1,994 sq. ft. which consists of equipment/storage rooms, chemical rooms and a snack bar for public use which includes a separate outdoor dining area. The new facilities include high efficiency equipment, ultraviolet disinfection of pool water and the replacement of the facility’s landscape irrigation with recycled water. The existing recreation center (1966 gymnasium) remained in service and open to the public during the construction of this project. The existing parking lot was expanded without impacting mature tree groves while maintaining a verdant park.
